Support our work: https://democracynow.org/donate/sm-desc-yt The U.S.-Israeli war on Iran has now entered its fourth week. The de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces is being felt worldwide, as shipments of oil, natural gas and fertilizer have been drastically curtailed. A fifth of the world's oil supply transits through the strait, and the price of oil is up by about 50% since the war began in late February. On Saturday evening, President Trump threatened Iran on social media, saying he would "obliterate their various power plants, starting with the biggest one first," if the Strait of Hormuz was not fully reopened within 48 hours. He later extended his deadline by five days following Iranian threats to destroy essential infrastructure, including energy and water systems, across the Gulf. Iran has denied reports of direct or indirect talks with the U.S. If Iran can keep the Strait of Hormuz closed and "hold Washington to ransom," it will have significant leverage, says Alfred McCoy, professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. "In a strategic analysis, Iran right now is in the dominant position." Democracy Now! is an independent global news hour that airs on over 1,500 TV and radio stations Monday through Friday. Iran didn’t blink. Trump blinked, squinted, and then asked for a five-day timeout while the storyline gets rewritten and the audience forgets the first act

Too bad there isn’t alternative means of energy! Oh wait, we did have those until DJT blew up those plans to support oil and gas!

I would not trust one grain of sand to Trump or any one in his cabinet.

I feel so sad and disappointed in humanity. I was a silly idealistic fool who assumed we would always move forward towards some kind of Star Trek Utopia type thing, but instead, we are literally flirting with extinction, and certainly global societal collapse like the Bronze Age Collapse, but on a greater scale. Wild!

History is such a great subject. It shows us all the things we refuse to learn.

Props to Democracy Now for providing this excellent Historian with the platform to speak about the history and geopolitical realties of the Suez Canal war and the current Strait of Hormuz tinderbox. What he said with clarity and without self righteousness was the information corporate media doesn't want the global community to know.
