I was a huge Nirvana fan as a kid in the 90s and they had a song called “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle” so I had to do a bit of research on her. To a teen girl, her story was WILD… to an adult, it just breaks my heart. Kurt named his daughter after her and admired her tenacity and strength, considering people were coming at her from all sides. It’s just such a sad story. She deserved better, especially from her own mother.
Girl your timing is impeccable! Baby just went down for a nap and mamas ready for her history lesson 🥹🥹
“Well behaved women don’t make history”
Such a great story you are covering FRANCES deserves her story to be told
Hey Baliey! Just popping in to say hey. Can you do the dark history of the titanic. Please and thank you. My cat just jumped up to watch lol we both love you❤
This is such a sad story. I read the book and watched the movie where Jessica Lange played Francis Farmer. She had a tragic life due to an overbearing mother and a strong, independent streak. She smoked and drank which drove her mother crazy.
I remember her being on a tv show. It was about peoples lives. I can’t remember the name. She was very quiet and timid during the interview. She suffered a lobotomy at the State hospital. Very sad story. No one should go through what happened to her. 😢 It was This is Your Life.
I currently work at Western State Hospital, where we have a collection of artifacts from her stay—like a mini museum. For those who are interested, tours of that part of the hospital are available. Thanks again for sharing such a great story; I had no idea about the soldiers!
The movie Frances is so amazing, but so sad.
Conservatorships are a scary thing... The only one I've heard of where a famous person was (at least to my knowledge) not abused by their parents or guardians was Amanda Bynes. When she petitioned the judge to lift it, her parents supported that decision. Frances and Britney were victims of gross miscarriages of justice. The same for Brian Wilson (who recently passed, RIP) of the Beach Boys. I don't know if you would be interested in covering that one Bailey. There is a movie about it and his life called Love and Mercy.
