as an autistic person, i don't give a single shit what 'caused' it. that knowledge does nothing to help autistic people - accommodations/safeguards/a world better suited for us and more understanding of us is what we need - but they are not even pursuing that 'knowledge' in good faith, because they're ignoring the high genetic heritability and the existence of autistic people long before these modern 'causes'. autism has always existed, diagnostic capability is what drastically changed as well as the environment of the 21st century (where it became both harder to mask as society increased our sensory overload and less required as society became more accepting). it just seems to me like none of that matters to maha/autism scapegoaters because they don't want us to exist. they use us to advance their pro-eugenics, anti-vax agenda and infantalise and ostracise us in the process. we have to be the other, some freak of nature caused by some sin of our parents, malformed in utero or as babies and therefore lesser humans, because our very existence exposes the flaws in their simulation of a perfect system. we show how insufficient their capitalist, hetero/gender-normative, oppressive systems really are, we make their version of 'normal' unsustainable, and that’s threatening to anyone invested in maintaining power through conformity. so we've become a blemish that must be concealed. searching for a 'cause' is a smokescreen to justify subjugating us. the thing is, being autistic is not inherently inferior to being allistic. and in fact, if i could stop being autistic, i wouldn't. i celebrate it for many reasons. my issues are largely not with my autism, but with societal structures, and that's exactly the mentality these people are trying to reverse.

My great Grandmother who was born in the US lost her citizenship when she married her husband who was an immigrant. She had to apply for naturalization with him. My grandmother told me she was VERY upset about that.
