I did an experiment this year on my seeds that prefer direct sowing, and sowed them in toilet paper rolls and just transfered them directly to the ground. It doesn't disturb the roots and the toilet paper roll is biodegradable, so it breaks down relatively fast when put in the ground. All of the plants I did like this are doing well! I did my cilantro, cucumbers, peas, and beans like this, as well as direct sowing them. They all grew just fine, and at the same rate. My cucumbers actually did better with the toilet paper roll method!
1. Cilantro 2. Hollyhocks 3. Lemongrass 4. Pumpkins 5. Cucumbers 6. Beans 7. Sunflowers 8. Bitter melon 9. Summer squash 10. Onions/shallots
Could never be ashamed of anyone on here, all of you are grow heroes. π
Love your videos, but wish these kind also had a northern perspective! I am a small space gardener in Michigan and our April starting seeds are different from the warmer climates. I am still always going to watch, of course, but would love to see a more northern gardener on your collaborative videos!

Kevin, we are NOT ashamed of you! π€© I do, however, have a secret hope you will plant some shimomoley and mention it repeatedly. π (I have been growing tons of chamomile now for 2 years, because it reminds me of you and makes me giggle.)
Also a big shoutout to LMNT for their support of the chronic illness community, we love them over here!
Plant extra Zucchini this year. With food going up in price you can feed lots of hungry people with Zucchini. One of my favorite dishes is sauted Zucchini, fresh mushrooms, garlic, onion or leeks, and Italian stewed tomatoes. Serve on pasta or rice with parmesan cheese. Zucchini is also good for breakfast in an omelet. I'm even planting some in my front yard to give to neighbors or anyone that is struggling to feed their families.
I cannot believe sheβs so efficient that she grows beans around sunflowers ππ amazing
