for me it was the massive increase in pop culture references. those jokes didnt hit to me and dont make sense. why tf would someome like rick care about twitter or reddit?
The show just became another "adult" show by leaning too much into edgy jokes, toilet humor, and being cynical and meta. What made it good was the nuance it had while having heart and character development.
