I grew up near the cheese caves. I've always brought the cheese caves up, people used to think we were lying 😂
I grew up on Government Cheese, also refured to as Ghetto Cheese. We were poor and hungry. The cheese saved us from hunger.
It used to make the best grilled cheese sandwiches!!!!
I remember this free cheese thing when I was a kid. This is wild.
I had to stop this in the first 5 minutes to call my dad about government butter cause he was both poor enough and old enough to tell me if government butter was real.
I'm a truck driver, and I used to take loads through the cheese caves! It's indeed huge, with hundreds of full sized tractor-trailers going in and out everyday. Kraft products are a part of the cheese caves and I worked with Kraft to deliver and pick up their loads. I didn't know that the caves were also government controlled! I just thought it was storage for private company use. Thanks for the new info!
