There IS in fact humor in Narnia. My favorite example is the end of The Silver Chair, when the headmistress of the experimental school calls the police when Aslan appears in the real world: “When the police arrived and found no lion, no broken wall, and no convicts, and the Head behaving like a lunatic, there was an inquiry into the whole thing. And in the inquiry all sorts of things about Experiment House came out, and about ten people got expelled. After that, the Head's friends saw that the Head was no use as a Head, so they got her made an Inspector to interfere with other Heads. And when they found she wasn't much good even at that, they got her into Parliament where she lived happily ever after.”

There's humor in Narnia, but it's very understated Two examples: at the end of The Horse and his Boy, Lewis writes that the male and female leads got so used to and fond of arguing with one another that they married so they could do it more conveniently; and at the beginning of Silver chair, Puddleglum responds to the assertion that they have to begin by finding a ruined city this way: "Got to start by FINDING a ruined city? We couldn't start by LOOKING for it?"

Lewis’ nonfiction writing is brilliant. Every Christian should read both Mere Christianity and The Problem of Pain.

Screwtape Letters is one of my long time favorites. The charming humor and insights are always delightful. I've probably read the book recently listened to the audio version of the book, over ten times during the last 30 years.
