The fact that green eggs and ham isn’t on here should be criminal.

Great books! When I turned 16, i made the decision to read all of Tolstoy, all of Dickens, & all of Steinbeck before my next birthday- was one of the best decisions I ever made.

“Of Mice and Men” for the ending alone is a must read.

After my Mom died when I was 47, I went through a serious midlife crisis. I had read Tolstoy’s Ivan Ilyich in college twenty years before and I weirdly started thinking of that book all the time. Hadn’t thought of it in years. I told my husband , Tolstoy was a Christian, I just know it. I won’t go into it, but he was later in life and was when he wrote Ivan but not during Anna Karenina or W & P. Anyway, I read it again and what a message about wasting your life and what matters! Perfect midlife message (He also told me to study Ecclesiastes) and so Tolstoy has always had a soft spot in my heart. Interestingly he is even tied to Ghandi and MLK. God is so kind to worry about and help little nobodies like me with book recommendations 😊.

Les Miserables needs to be here- I know it’s been watered down by musicals and movies but the full unabridged book is a true life-changing experience

I've only read 'The Brothers Karamazov' from this list, but I can say with confidence that if you have the patience for it, the experience will be truly life altering.
