Description

Award-winning filmmaker Jafar Panahi sits down with Jon Stewart and his interpreter Sheida Dayani to discuss his latest film, “It Was Just An Accident,” which is currently nominated for two Academy Awards. They talk about suffering a 20-year ban from filmmaking under the Iranian regime, the difference between a socially engaged filmmaker and one who caters to audiences, displaying the difference between humanity and authoritarianism through characters' doubt, and why, despite censorship and mass killings, he continues to return to Iran. #DailyShow #JafarPanahi #Iran Subscribe to The Daily Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwWhs_6x42TyRM4Wstoq8HA/?sub_confirmation=1 Follow The Daily Show: Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheDailyShow Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailyshow Stream full episodes of The Daily Show on Paramount+: http://www.paramountplus.com/thedailyshow Follow Comedy Central: Twitter: https://twitter.com/ComedyCentral Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ComedyCentral Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/comedycentral About The Daily Show: Jon Stewart and The Best F**king News Team host The Daily Show, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program analyzing the biggest stories in news, politics, and culture through a sharp, satirical lens. Thank you Jon/Daily Show for breaking language barriers. Voices worth hearing should be allowed and promoted to do so regardless of the language they speak. ❤

As an Iranian watching this after weeks, days and even several hours of watching the news, reading and engaging with discussions and comments, and feeling rage, and and at time hatred, this man's words brought me a sense of oneness, and a feeling of sympathy for humanity.
