Remember you got a lot of followers that are 30 too and still trying to get rich, wanting advice!
As a 40yr old exec who never started I can only attest that once you follow salary path it will be incredibly difficult to get out. You will find gazillion excuses like need more passive income, hit the target number which is constantly growing or... get a promotion to have a better safety net. Forget mba, forget professional experience like PE, IB or consulting is bs cause that will format you as an employee subconsciously.
Shaans storytelling skills are crazy
In summary: 1/ have the courage to start 2/ don't quit on first failure. 3/ learn to build, sell, and get lucky 4/ proximity is power 5/ impatient action, impatient results 3 ideas: # marketing agency # real state developer after apprenticeship # buy profitable business using SBA loan
Another fun episode. At 62, with a lifetime of business experiences behind me (failures and successes from motorcycle parts to first US climbing walls to guitars, razorwire, directional drilling and data centers) - it's fun to track the solid advice (start, build, sell), explore the paradoxes (don't follow your passion but definitely follow your dream...), and navigate the FOMO and entrepreneurial hype (W2 for settlers and losers, founders are the cool kids). I love that you show the mediocre can accomplish things (I learned at some point to embrace my mediocrity, make peace with it, and build from there). My hope is that we don't elevate business and entrepreneurship as the ultimate vehicles for everything. You have so many great episodes exploring what business doesn't and will likely never solve of true human conditions that deserve our time and energy. When business becomes the easiest drug and distraction from the things you regularly acknowledge have greater (yet non-monetary) value, we may look back and see all the effort as little more than years of tiktok scrolling. Great pod and thanks for the entertainment and education you and Sam share.
