Description

This week, Alex dives into what really happens to your sex life after the honeymoon stage, and how to navigate the slowdown. Then, Alex gets into what to do when a friend betrays you, surviving political fights with your family, and why heavy drinking can cover up incompatibility issues in a relationship. Plus, how to handle a judgmental mother-in-law, and when to drop the “I love you.” Enjoy! I’m a couples therapist and Alex is right. The beginning is called the limerence period and it can last up to 2 years, but is usually about a year. The important thing is to find your way with your partner to the next stage of the relationship which is an even stronger and more bonded stage. Alex is also right about the security in the relationship helping the relationship to feel good. Sex is also a conversation that conveys love, desire and closeness, which both people need to feel. In marriage, the conversation about sex is ongoing and is a very healthy way to grow through different stages of life together.

I love this and I think the most IMPORTANT thing is to NOT COMPARE!!!! It doesn't matter what everyone else is doing (or saying they are doing) --- it's between you and your partner. So many times I felt guilty that I wasn't "performing" up to what the "standards" were and finally I just let that go. If my partner is happy, I'm happy.

Thinking it’s too soon before half a year to say I love you is ridiculous. There is no time minimum you have to wait. I fell in love in 2 weeks. At the time I was adamant it wasn’t love because of people (like Alex) saying it’s too immature or too soon. But ultimately they were wrong. Been married 15 years and I keep falling deeper in love.
