Analyzing Cinematic Logic Across Decades of Superman Pitches

Examine the narrative reasoning, questionable character choices, and plot shortcuts employed across multiple Superman movie pitches, from 1978 to speculative future installments. Understand the core creative decisions that generate both franchise longevity and critical scrutiny.

Short Summary

  • Reveals persistent plot holes concerning secret identity maintenance (glasses logic).
  • Highlights Superman’s reliance on extreme measures like time reversal to undo catastrophic failures.
  • Details how Lex Luthor adapts his villainous role across various sequels and continuities.
  • Exposes recurring issues with romantic relationship developments, often solved via memory wiping.

This session dissects the proposed narratives for several Superman features, using the Pitch Meeting framework to expose cinematic absurdities. You will see how core concepts—like Kryptonite, the Fortress, and Superman's morality—are treated heterogeneously across timelines, revealing the inherent challenges in maintaining a coherent superhero epic over decades.

I've always loved these, but I wasn't a fan when you switched Producer Guy actors halfway through the first pitch. I'm glad you brought back the original, that new guy just wasn't tight.

80s computers could do anything. Hack nuclear weapon control systems, control traffic signals so they have a fight, and create a woman out of photographs.

The explanation of Lex Luthor's plan in Batman vs. Superman is still one of the best moments in Pitch Meeting history.
