Episode 7 opens with a major turning point: Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink – The Whale, Fear Street) wakes safely in the real world, while Holly Wheeler is revealed to be trapped inside the Abyss, a newly defined and far more dangerous dimension. Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo – Prank Encounters, Dear Evan Hansen) and Steve Harrington (Joe Keery – Free Guy, Fargo) rescue Nancy (Natalia Dyer – Yes, God, Yes) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton – The New Mutants) just in time to witness Holly falling through the Upside Down — only for Henry Creel / Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower – Sweeney Todd, Twilight) to telekinetically pull her back. As Erica Sinclair (Priah Ferguson – The Oath), Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman – Fleabag, The Other Guys), and Mr. Clarke (Randy Havens – Godzilla: King of the Monsters) reunite with the group, the threat escalates when Dr. Kay (Linda Hamilton – The Terminator, T2) orders Akers to hunt Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown – Enola Holmes, Godzilla: King of the Monsters). Dustin explains that the Abyss is a separate dimension entirely, while Max reveals Henry’s true goal: merging it with the real world to complete his plan. A desperate strategy forms when Hopper (David Harbour – Violent Night, Black Widow) and Steve propose drawing the dimensions closer so Eleven and Kali (Linnea Berthelsen – The Witcher) can confront Henry inside the Abyss while the others fight in the Upside Down. Kali delivers the episode’s most devastating revelation — that after killing Henry, she and Eleven must die so their powers can never be replicated again. In a deeply emotional moment, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp – Hubie Halloween) comes out as gay to the group, grounding the episode’s apocalyptic stakes in raw humanity. The episode ends on a chilling cliffhanger: as Murray drives most of the group back into the Upside Down, Holly awakens inside Henry’s house, is beaten after trying to warn the other children, and Derek stays silent to protect his family.
