Can't argue with how this "witch" played the game...
Tituba: The Caribbean Catalyst for the Salem Witch Trials
Discover how the Salem Witch Trials may have originated with an enslaved woman from the Caribbean, challenging the common narrative of Puritan hysteria. Learn the tactical steps she took to survive and the devastating cost of the ensuing mania.
Short Summary
- The accepted narrative points to Salem Puritans, but the public catalyst may have been Tituba, an enslaved woman brought from Barbados.
- Tituba strategically confessed to witchcraft, providing elaborate, theatrical details that the paranoid community craved.
- She used inside knowledge gained as a servant to implicate rivals, effectively weaponizing the hysteria she helped ignite.
- Ultimately, 25 people died as a result of the hysteria that started in Reverend Paris's house.
- Understand the complex social, environmental, and religious pressures that made 1692 Salem ripe for mass accusation.
This discussion details the historical context surrounding the Salem Witch Trials, focusing specifically on the pivotal—and often misunderstood—role of Tituba. The presentation explains her journey from the Caribbean to Massachusetts and analyzes her calculated response when accused, revealing a masterclass in survival performance during extreme societal chaos.

People probably said crazy gossip in front of Tutuba because they underestimated her.
From records they believe more likely she wasan indigenous south American from the Tetebetana tribe who was enslaved in Barbados. Someone also believe that that's how she got her name.
Just got home from Salem a few days ago. Was sooooo much fun & super interesting!
