The stock fear and greed index which measures people’s sentiment about the stock market is now at 40 and we are officially in fear mode. The crypto fear and greed index is at 24 which means extreme fear in the crypto markets and keep in mind we’re only in April. But Sell In May and go away means that May will most likely be even worse as usually May is not a good month for investors. WHAT IS THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN LIST? This is a stock list put out by the CNBC - it's composed of 7 tech stocks: Netflix, Roku, Tesla, Peloton, square, PayPal, and Zoom. So far, those stocks are not doing well. WHAT'S BETTER THAN THAT LIST RIGHT NOW? Personally I'm buying the S&P500 as it is represented by one stock which of course is VOO. It represents the top 500 companies in the US, so far I’m down a little but no where near as bad as CNBC's recommendations. I’ve also been buying VTI which represents the entire US stock market and it’s made up of several thousand stocks. I’m dollar cost averaging into this stock every single day. I’ve also been reinvesting my money into VYM which is the Vanguard high Dividend yield etc, I’m up over 39% on this one which is huge because not only am I making money on my dollar, but I’m also earning a 2.6% yearly interest which is translating to a quarterly income of roughly $80 and that’s enough to pay some bills. My other Dividend ETF I’ve been reinvesting into is SPHD - I have a $10,000 position here and that stock pays me $30 a month. While all of these stocks have not made me crazy money - they are also nowhere near as volatile as buying individual tech stocks which are down multi digits. WHY ARE DIVIDENDS SO GOOD NOW? Dividends allow me to continue investing and sleep well at night knowing that even when the stock market becomes scary - I can continue investing for the long term because it is mathematically proven to be the best strategy anyone can do.
