The same refinery had an explosion in 2020. Sounds like a poor safety environment. Valero Port Arthur. Explosion in 2020 and yesterday.

Located in Port Arthur, Texas - the Valero oil refinery that processes 435K barrels/day. No injuries reported, all workers accounted for. Early indications suggest a malfunction with an industrial heater, so less like sabotage or external cause.

I grew up in that town. My father and brother both worked at that refinery. That refinery has the capability to produce both US crude oil and Middle East crude oil at the same time. Rare for a lot of refineries. There is also a large population of middle easterners living in that area of Texas, working as contractors for the refineries (about 8 refineries). They are not employees of the refineries, just unvetted outside contractors.

I live in the Houston area and grew up here, this stuff happens more than you would think.
