Description

What is escape velocity? On this explainer, Neil DeGrasse Tyson and co-hosts Chuck Nice and Gary O’Reilly explain the best place to kick a ball into space. How hard do you have to kick a soccer ball to get it into orbit? We talk about the top speed of a soccer ball and Earth’s escape velocity. I'm surprised nobody mentioned the fact that the ball would probably explode on your foot giving a ball that much energy. And even if it didn't, the ball would likely rip apart before it got into orbit from the friction in the air.

If there were an asteroid field large and dense enough to jump between asteroids, how would you play soccer on it? What sort of rules would you have to set?

When are we going to get a Things You Thought You Knew from Chuck. I want an explainer from Chuck. A Chuckplainer if you would. Doesn't even have to be science related. Just want Chuck to shine and show the mysterious things he knows
