Australian here. NZ has lowered their visa requirements because people have left in droves. Think about that.

New Zealand is losing net 40,000 citizens a month who are moving to Australia due to cost of living and expensive housing. That should be a major red flag to anyone considering moving and living there. Also there is literally no other major industries there other than tourism and agriculture. If you aren’t in those, and aren’t part of the monopolies, then you will earn a much better wage in Australia or for that matter any other western country. There’s a reason why white middle-class men from Down Under retire in Thailand

Something strange about a country having it's own people leave, for whatever reason, so the government just decides to turn to "immigrants" as the answer...you can kinda see where this is leading.

I emigrated to NZ. The tax-free transition period is very useful, wish I’d made more of it. NZ has “no capital gains tax”, but it does have a slightly complex FIF (Foreign Investment Fund) tax which can be worse for some people, or better for others - especially a privately owned business - almost a wealth tax. NZ is lovely, but quiet and 4hrs MINIMUM flight from anywhere - eg Australia. Its remoteness makes things expensive and adventurous youth move to Australia etc. Some people emigrate to NZ as an easier stepping stone to Australia residency. NZ punches well above its weight in innovation, sport, wine (dangerous! :) ) and some farming. NZ reminds me or Ireland in terms of food, friendliness and diaspora. It’s scenery a mix of France, Scotland, Iceland and The Land That Time Forgot (in a good way).

My best friend has lived in NZ for over 30 years. He has a high net worth that exceeds 20M. He loves it, but he says it has many negatives that would stop him from moving to NZ today. Negatives like expensive taxes and day to day ones that keep growing until they affect even him. He has no kind words for some of the laws (like freedom of speech) and the isolation of living on basically an island wears on his family. But, he's not moving.

One thing you forgot to mention Andrew NZ is a socialist country with high taxes and your services health education etc are subsidised The welfare state is broken , businesses are closing down the tax take is also down and social services are now on life support , the social contract is broken and now racial separatism abounds funded by the NZ taxpayer!!!!!, and like you said NZers are leaving in droves .Very wealthy YES! Average wealth I would not consider NZ unless you want your money lost forever to a useless bureaucratic system. I love my country and have lived here all my NZ life of 60 years but it is time to look elsewhere in SE Asia
