I’m 52, been single my whole life, no kids. I come home every evening from work to a big empty house, eat exactly what I want (maybe even go out and grab some Taco Bell), go online, maybe book an exciting vacation (that I will most likely go on alone), buy the things I want, and do pretty much anything I want any time I want. My time, my home, and my money are all *mine* to spend as I wish. …and I would give all of it up TODAY just to have a son to play ball with. 💔

I was at the zoo the other day. My 2 1/2 year old was tired, cranky, hungry, etc. I was stressed out. Took him on the merry go round to placate him. As we’re going round and round he looks at me from the elephant he’s riding and says “I love you, daddy” and kisses me on the cheek. All the previous stress melts away when those moments happen.

When my son was six we went to a Royal Rangers camp and there were so many kids there whose dads didn't go. Once we got in the lake all of the kids just attacked me and wanted me to be the water monster that threw them and tossed them as far as I could. And we just had a blast. I was so sore the next day. I could hardly even move but it was one of those times I reflect on and realize all young boys need their fathers.

I told my son when he was 4 , that if he was good with the babysitter while me and mom were shopping for new car , I’d do whatever he wanted the next day. He was very good, the next day I came home from work and it was snowing very hard. My son was waiting at the door cause he wanted to ride the elevators at a mall about 35 miles away because they had 6 elevators and one was glass. I drove there at 6 pm , didn’t arrive til 8:15 due to snow and they closed at 9 pm. We have the best 45 minutes ant father and son could have . No regrets ever. Your time with your children is short, make the mist of it. I promised myself that my son wouldn’t never be heard saying ‘ my dad had no time for me ‘. He never has said that . Still close today. I’m the first call when he has concerns !

When I was 13, I was babysitting a toddler. She wanted to go outside, and jump around the yard. Just jump. She had recently learned how to jump, and that was ALL she wanted to do. So, I took her outside, and cheered her on, while she had an absolute ball, just jumping around the yard. I was bored out of my mind. Except for the fact that a child's laughter and smiling face is THE BEST. THAT is where you get your fun, as a parent. Your fun is your child's fun. You enjoy their enjoyment. You read "Goodnight Moon" for the 800th time that week, because your child is LOVING IT. And THAT is what makes it fun. You're not a monster. You're just self-absorbed.
