NEW Religious Drug Experiment is Trying to Bring GOD Back | Matthew Johnson
Investigating Psychedelic Science, Historical Drug Use, and Neuropharmacology with Dr. Matthew Johnson
Understand the ethical controversies within major psychedelic research studies and explore how drugs like cocaine, Adderall, and psilocybin pharmacologically impact behavior, belief, and brain function.
Short Summary
- Front-load the ethical issues discovered during the Johns Hopkins clergy study, where undisclosed funder involvement as guides compromised the blinding protocol.
- Explore the severe subjective risks of psychedelics, including temporary existential crises or dangerous misconceptions of physical ability (e.g., believing one can fly).
- Analyze the behavioral economics of stimulant use, detailing how dopamine dysregulation impacts creativity versus task focus, and contrast this with nicotine’s unique addictive pathway.
- Examine historical government programs (CIA, Army) that illegally researched mind-altering substances for warfare and control, underscoring the need for scientific transparency.
The discussion centers on the Johns Hopkins clergy study, detailing funding issues where donors acted as guides without IRB approval. Following this, the conversation covers the known risks of psychedelics and delves into stimulant pharmacology, neuroplasticity, and historical clandestine drug testing. Key takeaways emphasize that valid research must study the dark side alongside therapeutic potential, viewing addiction as a stuck, self-reinforcing suboptimal thought pattern.

MJ: Dexter Thorpin (Dextroathorphan) DJ: …Who?! 😂
Aye I work with this Brodi😂😂😂
I took a shot everytime he said “like” I’m now drunk 2 mins in 😂
Great Discussion. Thank you, Dr. Matthew Johnson, and Danny.
A friend psychiatrist told me that people with a ptsd diagnosis are more likely to have a bad experience with Marijuana and psychedelics, and veterans with bad childhoods are more likely to develop ptsd after combat. This guy is right. Mental illness patients are used for nefarious purposes because nobody will believe them. Sad. And I subscribed! I watched for a little while before making the decision.😊
I want to see an individual investigate a haunted location (overnight Channel or Sam and Colby) while a person is on a psychedelic and see if there is more activity at the location.
Im surprised how little we've made progress on psychedelics considering the positive qualities ( spiritual enlightenment, low risk of abuse , etc )
