I cry every time I watch the underwater test scene and that courtroom scene, watching people who had once underestimated Carl become some of his strongest supporters even amidst the blatant racism of others <3

My brother was a Navy Corpsman and had the opportunity to meet Master Chief Brashear. He said he was an absolute incredible man and he would always treasure the conversations they were able to have.

"The Navy Diver is not a fighting man, he is a salvage expert. If it is lost underwater, he finds it. If it's sunk, he brings it up. If it's in the way, he moves it. If he's lucky, he will die young, 200 feet beneath the waves, for that is the closest he'll ever get to being a hero."
