He needs a bigger chair
An abundance of excuses and bureaucracy. My husband is a licensed architect in LA with over 20 years experience working on public buildings. We have been waiting 18 months to get approval on an extension to our house. He had a team meeting with the building department this morning with SIX people in the call where he had to literally point out step by step how they were over engineering to the point of absurdity. Misreading maps, duplicating redundancy, etc.
I don’t think this guy has bad intentions, but he’s making the same arguments made by every charter school Democrat during the Obama administration. It always boils down to maintaining all systems of injustice, but creating “market incentives” so that the same billionaires with all of the power might consider doing something that doesn’t harm humanity.
The self-important people in the Democratic party insist on changing their pitch rather than changing their plan.
He didn't answer the Medicare For All question.
Thompson graduated from the Gavin Newsom School of Hand Gesturing
You can tell when you are talking to someone who has never built anything of significance with their hands. They have no idea how hard it is to take raw materials and transform them with your labor into something someone can live in, and do it with some level of efficiency and quality. Just building a simple structure requires so much to go right and typically involves so many different skills and trades it's a miracle if it gets done on time and on budget. Now imagine some desk jockey in a government office throwing down one roadblock after another before you even move one grain of dirt or saw one piece of wood.
It's tempting to recommend that people skip to the last 5 minutes bc that's where it gets really interesting/enlightening, or as good as it ever really becomes. He pretty much lost me at "I'm a social libertarian." Also I felt pretty much the entire interview that I was listening to someone trying to sell me a high-tech vacuum cleaner.
Government shouldn't be "obsessed with efficiency." It should be prioritizing good outcomes for the people. Take something like social work or child care. The solution to better those isn't "be more efficient!!!" It's focusing on getting the best holistic outcomes. Some things can't be easily measured.
I didn't know I'd be having word salad for lunch.
