I am German by birth but I have lived most of my adult life in the US. My life is here and I want the US to do well... but this constant talk about freeloading makes me incredibly angry. Germany was rebuild the way the allies wanted it. Germany was divided the way the allies wanted it. Germany was reunified the way the allies wanted it. But now Germany is a freeloader for simply making the best of it. Despite their now tiny military, Germans went to Afghanistan and died there alongside Americans. We all know the world has changed but treating your allies like dirt while bowing to Putin disgusts me.
Japan can't even call it's army the army because we forced them to enact a pacifist constitution. Calling them freeloaders is pretty rich.
It feels like they're trying to blame the rest of the world for the failure of Trickle-down.
Saying Europe freeloaded off the U.S. military is like saying your stay-at-home spouse exploited you while you insisted they never get a job.
They are "freeloading" because the USA wanted it. We're complaining about a system or a world order that we, the USA, wanted and built.
Thank you, Jon, for your courage in bringing on yet another guest whose views you don't necessarily agree with—and for having the tough conversations that often mirror the ones I find myself having with my own family. Watching you respond thoughtfully, and seeing someone from the other side attempt to do the same, is genuinely refreshing. It's especially meaningful that you acknowledge how difficult these conversations can be, yet still choose to engage in them regardless. That takes real courage and real, authentic, consideration for our nation. You're a real patriot.
It’s crazy how much things have changed. Everything is getting more expensive rent, food, gas. It feels like no matter how much you make, it’s never enough. People are literally living in their cars or trying to go off-grid just to survive.
This is one of the best things I’ve seen in a very long time. Watching two adults debate issues with respect, civility and even a little levity was so refreshing. This is how all debates should be. What a better world we would have if everyone could discuss these important issues in this way.
This is the strangest conversation I've heard in awhile
I wish all political conversations went like this. Very calm, understanding, asking questions, bringing up pros and cons of both sides… etc.
