Job Numbers, Ghost Postings, and the Divergence of US Economic Sentiment

Analyze how mysterious job numbers, ghost postings, and polarized sentiment reveal distinct, conflicting economic realities for consumers and corporations.

Short Summary

  • Private sector job losses are estimated by ADP for October, although government data is unavailable during the shutdown.
  • Consumer perception of the economy is historically negative, sharply contrasting with near all-time highs in corporate sentiment.
  • Millions of "ghost job postings" inflate statistical job availability, masking the true difficulty job seekers face.
  • The discussion critiques the Republican party's stated plans for healthcare, labeling them as non-existent political rhetoric.

This segment parses confusing economic signals, starting with the unreliable ADP report during the government shutdown. Speakers assess why consumer pain points—experiencing hardship despite strong corporate stocks—are the central political challenge for candidates like Trump. They then pivot to dissecting the persistent failure of Republicans to offer a concrete healthcare replacement plan.

Ghost jobs postings are so demoralizing. Making hundreds of people spend their limited time filling out an application just to waste their time. Absolutely dumb.

My largest client laid off a 20% of their workforce over the year but posted record profits. What is good for corporations is entirely divorced from what is good for the citizens.

The only 'long-term solution" was the one advanced by Lina Khan--break up the monopolies. The problem is that the monopolies are the same ones that own our Congress. A lot of this is attributable to Citizens' United. BTW--even if AI ultimately becomes real, it's still way over invested. A lot of people are going to lose their shirts.

We literally have a President who fired the person in charge of jobs numbers. We’re relying on businesses like ADP and DoorDash when we had a system in place to track this. I don’t know if people are willing to admit they were wrong.
