Description

Sec. Deb Haaland, the first Native American to serve as a cabinet secretary, joins Michael Kosta to discuss her work at the U.S. Department of the Interior. She explains her team’s work in protecting the country’s public lands, as well as preserving the nation’s cultural heritage through projects like an oral histories collection, speaking with survivors of Indian boarding schools, which separated families and forced assimilation. Plus, Sec. Haaland shares the story behind the gift she presented to President Biden at the Tribal Nations Summit and how the department is preparing to receive the Trump administration. #DailyShow #SecDebHaaland #NativeAmericanHeritage Subscribe to The Daily Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwWhs_6x42TyRM4Wstoq8HA/?sub_confirmation=1 Follow The Daily Show: Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheDailyShow Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailyshow Stream full episodes of The Daily Show on Paramount+: http://www.paramountplus.com/thedailyshow Follow Comedy Central: Twitter: https://twitter.com/ComedyCentral Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ComedyCentral Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/comedycentral About The Daily Show: Jon Stewart and The Best F**king News Team host The Daily Show, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program analyzing the biggest stories in news, politics, and culture through a sharp, satirical lens. "Federally recognized" is a key phrase to pay attention to. There are many native American tribes not recognized by the US government.

My great grandfather saw enough and was old enough to run from the school. At 90 he told me his story in the 70's as the eldest grandchild.
