Correction: Missile crises started when US installed its nuclear weapons in Turkey (just on the other side of Black Sea). Then Soviet Union moved their nuclear weapons into Cuba to counter US aggressive move. The agreement was that Soviet Union will remove nuclear weapons from Cuba and US will remove their nuclear weapons from Turkey. Both did Soviet Union kept their word and kept their weapons out of Cuba, but US later broke their own word (as they always do) and installed nuclear weapons in Turkey again.
Cuba made the right choice in my opinion.

Alexander, what do you mean, "fall into the hands of Russia?" I don't consider Russia's breaking America's endless cycle of abuse to resume the technological, industrial, and managerial development that the USSR was unable to complete a "concession" by Cuba. It's exactly what the Cubans want and need.
It was the U.S that punished CUBA rather than finding other alternative ways to work together or build some kind of leveled playing field.
Food, medicines, fuel to Cuba (2026) vs nuclear missiles to Cuba (1962). Big difference.
When I visited Cuba in 1983 the country was very impressive. There were health Clinics everywhere Happy healthy young people, tremendous advances in agriculture (dairies poultry vegetables) this was also supported by sugar being sold to the Soviet Union at fair prices
Oh, Alexander, Russia still have sufficient government's funds and some past time principles, thank goodness!
As I mentioned before, if the Cuban government got a 100% commitment of support from Russia and China it would choose China, Russia and BRICS over the USA.
