Political Volatility and the Looming 2023 ACA Subsidy Cliff

Understand why proposed Republican healthcare ideas, like direct payments or Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), pose severe risks to affordability and how the pending December 31st subsidy deadline threatens financial stability for millions.

Short Summary

  • Failing to extend enhanced ACA tax credits by year-end means millions face doubled or tripled health insurance premiums.
  • Proposed Republican solutions, such as giving cash directly to individuals for negotiation, risk dismantling crucial risk pool protections.
  • Physician expert Dr. Rob Davidson warns that dismantling the ACA market structure returns patients to the "wild west" era of uninsurability and medical bankruptcy.
  • The discussion pivots heavily on corporate profits, noting insurance stock increases of 1000% coinciding with rising patient costs.

This episode features Fred Wellman interviewing ER Physician Dr. Rob Davidson about immediate dangers stemming from the government shutdown over ACA subsidies and proposed alternatives. The focus is on the severe economic impact facing working Americans if subsidies expire, alongside a broader critique of the profit motives driving the system.

Description

After the government shutdown over extending Affordable Care Act tax subsidies, Donald Trump and the Republican Doormat Congress have suddenly decided they care about healthcare costs. He has floated a series of insane ideas from just giving the money to individuals so we can "negotiate prices' to revisiting Health Savings Account. All that is old is new again and all that is stupid is still stupid. Healthcare is the foundation of nearly everything in the United States. It costs people their livelihoods, drives the ability to open businesses, and whether one should stay in a bad job or not. That’s before we talk about the devastating failures leaving us with sicker Americans. Fred Wellman sits down with Dr. Rob Davidson, ER Physician, Executive Director of the Committee to Protect Health Care, and the podcast Paging America, to break down why these moves are so dangerous and how it will really cost Americans. Dr. Rob has been vocal about the real challenges to our health system and lays it all out in this must watch episode. He only ran to get rich, get revenge, and stay out of prison. He doesn't care about the economy as long as he's getting richer.

Such a fool! He's stating he's going to send a $2000 check to everyone to negotiate with insurance companies. I worked in medical insurances in a hospital for 20 years. He's out of his effing mind! It won't work. Number 1 he's not sending those checks. Number 2 it would cost more than $2000 a year to get any insurance. What a moron! Impeach him now!😢

Being over 30 Trillion in debt there will be no $ being given to “We the People”, won’t happen. The affordable care act has been good to me. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it especially when you have no replacement!
