Probably how the victims families feel when they saw Dahmer so popular on Netflix.
I found it interesting that Pia ended up dying by an accident instead of being killed by the mother, like earlier in the episode when they said the killings were passed off as missing persons who had accidents. Turns out her death actually was ultimately just an accident.
I thought the turning point of the episode was when we see her write "FOR" without the rest of the note. I thought it was a note of "FORGIVE ME" but instead it was "FOR YOUR FILM, MUM" which implied no regrets even when she was found out. The cold heart of a serial killer to the end.
"look at this pretty thing you've captured." The mum was already creepy in her first lines. I love how black mirror sets all the pieces on the chessboard then one by one knocks them down.
I love how this episode truly critiqued the romanticization of true crime. Like even all the people at the bar at the end of the episode wearing replicas of the mom's mask is a detail which just shook me to my core.
Can’t think of a BM character more evil than Janet. Hidden in plain sight. Scariest thing about this episode is the reality that we really don’t know much about one another. If you go digging around you never know what you’re gonna find.
I didn't think the son was dark. I thought he was sad. His girlfriend should have dropped it when she could see he wasn't happy with the project. She wanted to be successful too badly and her curiosity killed her.
I think this episode was a critique on true crime documentaries, how streaming services and producers will take real cases that affected real people and profit off of it as much as they can, meanwhile those people that have been affected by it are still dealing with the consequences of what happened. Davis staring at the BAFTA mask shows that although his film was a success, he still has to struggle with the grief and the shock of the aftermath while everyone else buzzes on about shows or how else they can profit off of it.
The people in the pub wearing copies of the mask were really chilling to me. The fact that the eventual documentary spawned merchandise really hammered home how profit-motivated the final product was.
