I'm a lifelong Democrat turned 3rd party voter who voted republican for the first time in my life this past election. Ironically, it was Trump's position on Israel that I was most conflicted about. But I hoped that he would at least bring an end to the killing. And here it looks like he's worked out a ceasefire before even entering office. I'm with you, Kim. I'm optimistic that things may start to turn around. And it's funny you mention the sharing of the Jeffrey Sachs video because that was also another thing that stood out in my mind as a very, very good sign.

In the context of the Israel-Palestine conflict, ceasefires are frequently used as strategic maneuvers rather than resolutions. They provide temporary relief, but the underlying issues remain unresolved, and the fighting almost always resumes. It’s a sobering reminder that these pauses are not an end to violence but a tactic—a chance to regroup, rearm, or rebuild momentum. We've seen this pattern repeated too many times, and it highlights the heartbreaking reality that the cycle of violence will continue unless real, meaningful steps are taken to address the roots of the conflict. Beyond the immediate devastation, there’s an even deeper tragedy unfolding: the thousands of families with young children who are growing up with an unimaginable level of hatred and vengeance for what was done to their people and communities. This generational pain and trauma are already evident in the young men who are growing up in this environment. Unless this cycle is broken, we are condemning future generations to inherit not just the scars of this conflict but the fuel to keep it burning.
