The creator already said that gina and ricky we're always going to be endgame and all of your questions will be answered in season 4
For me, Ricky and Gina is definitely my favorite couple from the show, watching them in season 4 really makes it clear to me that they work so much better together than Ricky did with Nini and Gina did with EJ
Greg thats insane bc the chemistry between Gina and Ricky is crazy good. Crazy enough that it was unplanned in s1 and they were so good they started building them up since filming s1 as endgame bc the plan changed (confirmed by creator). Like they gave INSANE chemistry
35:05 This moment is so important. There’s this idea that has floated around the show that Gina is Ricky’s second choice, that Ricky only wants Gina because he can’t have Nini. The thing is that Ricky has never actually been in a position to choose between Gina and Nini (he only reconnected with Nini in season 1 when Gina was leaving and got back together with her when he thought Gina wasn’t staying). This moment though, he does have the opportunity to choose. Nini is in the audience and Ricky has no idea she’s thinking about moving, Gina is in the wings and he doesn’t know where he stands with her, but he’s singing a love song and when he’s given the opportunity to choose between Nini and Gina, Ricky chooses Gina.
The thing about EJ and Gina is that they have a 2 year age gap in high school. They started dating while she was a sophomore and he's a second-semester senior- it was a recipe for failure from the beginning. They're in 2 totally different places in life. EJ is obviously approaching a more serious part of his life where he has to take on more responsibilities and be mature, whereas Gina is totally within her right to enjoy high school and be a kid for a little while longer. They had different expectations regarding their camp experiences, and, unfortunately, it ended the way it did. That being said... Ricky and Gina were always going to be endgame. From season 1, the prom scene, the showrunner and writer said that he pivoted his original plan after seeing the chemistry the 2 actors had in that scene.
Fun fact: in the original script it was Ricky confessing to gina and he admitted that it was him that got her the chocolates but the creator stuck with Gina confessing instead AND the creator of the show said the scene with Ricky and gina in the car after homecoming in season 1 changed the trajectory of the show because of the chemistry between sofia and josh and if they got more seasons it was always gonna be Ricky and gina 🤭 so take THAT Greg! Lmaooo im actually surprised tara was SPOT on with the Ricky,gina and ej dynamic Edit: “I hope she gets with ricky and they drive each other crazy” *slaps*
I so agree with you Tara! Gina gave EJ several chances. She wasn't getting what she wanted or needed and there is nothing wrong with her not settling. What was she suppose to do when he didn't even save her a dance like he promised? If he doesn't have time for her now he certainly isn't going to have time for her later when his responsibilities only get greater. And the big reason EJ was putting so much pressure on himself for this play was because of his dad. And I think both of them learned something from this relationship. I think losing Gina gave him the impetus to stand up to his dad. And Gina learned what she wanted and needed in a relationship. I think Gina and EJ have chemistry. But the chemistry between Gina and Ricky is on another level. Tara is right that they have real chemistry.
