Why Did Anything Survive The Big Bang?
Solving the Mystery: Why Matter Survived Antimatter Annihilation
Discover how the Dirac equation predicted antimatter, why matter should have vanished entirely through annihilation, and what tiny historical imbalance explains our continued existence against massive odds.
Short Summary
- Paul Dirac's 1928 equation predicted a partner particle for every matter particle, leading directly to the concept of antimatter.
- If the early universe produced equal amounts of matter and antimatter, they should have annihilated completely, leaving only radiation.
- Our existence requires an imbalance of approximately one part in a billion favoring matter, a discrepancy current physics cannot fully explain. This document explores the historical arc of antimatter discovery, from mathematical prediction to experimental proof, establishing the fundamental puzzle of cosmic asymmetry that remains unsolved.

Dr. Greene’s books are wonderful, and his ability to elucidate physics and help us lay people understand a little bit is his gift. Notice he also pushes you to learn more?
So cool ! Thank you Mr. Greene !

Thanks Dr Greene.. Pls keep these short insightful ones coming - I can watch the long interviews, but my social circle will be much more inclined to watch the short ones, if I share them
I love how so many commenters seem to think they know better than the guy who’s been studying physics for 50 years 😂
Wouldnt it be cool if those missing anti-matter particals went to a parrellel universive thats exactly like ours, but thier physicsts call a positron matter and an electron anti-matter.
Anti-molecule. Anti-organism. Anti-planet. Anti-star. This is wild.
Interesting thing, Einstein was never given a Nobel for Special Relativity. Dirac had to combine SR with Quantum Mechanics to write down an equation for the electron. So in 1933 it is the first time the Swedish Academy actually recognizes Special Relativity , even tho it is indirectly.
At the Big Bang, matter was in a superposition of matter and antimatter, giving it all 50/50 percentage. As we know, multiple 50/50 tip slightly to one side. Q.E.D. Thank you.
"Man exists in what he believes is reality, but there is another side, a dark side, just as real but not as brightly lit" Some things that you said made me think of this which was played at the beginning of a TV show.
