It should be illegal to interrogate people while withholding food and sleep. Poor Damon. Dude who found the body was sketchy as hell.
Damon should have been awarded millions of dollars for this injustice.
Sadly, i just saw that Damon passed away from Covid in 2021. But he was exonerated in 2012 so he got to enjoy almost a decade of freedom first. ❤
First question “am I free to go?” If the answer is yes, leave and get an attorney. If the answer is no, lawyer up.
Stories like this that makes me firmly believe that a lot of detectives just want a conviction. Doesn’t matter who it is. Doesn’t have to be the actual person that did it. It’s political not about justice.
Damon died and spent 15 years on death row. The Innocence Project got him released. He died years later. No compensation. The people who torture and force wrongful confessions from innocent people should be held accountable.
I was heartbroken to learn after watching this, that Damon died of Covid complications nine years after he was freed. During those nine years, he spoke publicly, testified before a senate committee, and appeared in a documentary about solitary confinement and death row. Life can be so unfair.
Honestly, respect to the DA for keeping an open mind about Damon Thibodeaux. When the evidence made it clear they had the wrong guy, the DA showed incredible fidelity to the law and the all-too-rare humility to say, “I was wrong.” Hopefully they’re able to catch the real killer and bring them to justice.

Losing a child in that manner must be the greatest pain in life 😢
