Description

At Google DeepMind, researchers are chasing what’s called artificial general intelligence: a silicon intellect as versatile as a human's, but with superhuman speed and knowledge. "60 Minutes" is the most successful television broadcast in history. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 and is still a hit, over 50 seasons later, regularly making Nielsen's Top 10. One thing is clear: the labor market must undergo a radical transformation. It's time to stop marinating people in 8 to 16-hour workdays. We should be spending more time with our families, on personal growth, and on creativity.

When are you guys going to do a segment on post labor economy now that you know AGI will arrive in the next 5 to 10 years? Why don’t you guys talk about the role, implications of AGI and what happens afterwards? Truthfully most people aren’t ready to hear about it.

Demis has *so* much more credibility than the other players in the space. No hype, just thoughtful answers. Hope he remains inspired to keep up the good work.

As someone in their 40s I am both relieved to not be entering the labor market right now, scared of where it will go in the future but also very excited by what all the robotics and assistance can do to assist elderly people (myself in future decades). It's going to be horrific and wonderful all at once.

Every time I hear from leaders in the AI arena pushing this tech faster and faster (Demis, Elon, Altman, etc.). They always talk about the need to set guardrails or figure out values we want to make sure AGI should have but its always framed as if someone else should be doing this. As if others not in the AI arena have the means to even wrapped their heads around what is going on to begin with. Its probably because the work to advance towards AGI is way more exciting than the work it would take to ensure there is safety and human well-being in alignment with this technology. We are indeed approaching a potential pandora's box and we are too excited to arrive there in a hurry to worry about how it all ends.

So, we are building robots that will be self-aware, and exponentially smarter than humans. But we hope that they remain under human control...Sounds like a plan.
