Uncovering WWII's Hidden Horrors: Cap Arcona, Alderney Camps, and the Auschwitz Album
Examine the near-forgotten tragedy of the Cap Arcona sinking, confront Nazi camps operated on British soil, and analyze chilling photos revealing the daily lives of perpetrators at Auschwitz.
Short Summary
- The British Royal Air Force mistakenly attacked and sank the Cap Arcona, killing 7,000 concentration camp prisoners just before WWII ended.
- Nazi concentration camps operated on Alderney, a British Channel Island, leading to official reviews decades later to establish accurate death tolls.
- An SS officer’s recovered photo album shows notorious killers socializing, singing, and celebrating mass murder at Auschwitz, challenging perceptions of perpetrators.
This broadcast reveals three deeply submerged and tragic chapters of World War II history, documenting massive loss of life through military error, systemic brutality on sovereign territory, and documented denial. Understanding these events offers crucial perspective on war crimes, friendly fire accountability, and the chilling normalcy of organized evil.

To remember the horror's of war , and the souls that were consumed in the senseless actions, should never be forgotten ever !
Episodes like this one remind me of why I love this show
This is an incredible video. However, the questions asked of the retired British officer almost feel like accusations. I hope in this day and age that we can all remember that the world was at war and no one is perfect. It also makes me wonder, just as happened here, if any of the trains/locomotives that were attacked and destroyed by allied airpower possibly held POWS and/or Jews. There would obviously be no contempt of such an event, just something I have wondered about.
Thank you for featuring this!
This episode should be see by all Americans. My parents were teenagers in Belgium during WWII, and told me of the atrocities in Europe by the Germans, but never told us about this. This is the first time I've heard about the Cap Arcona.
Im third! Listening and Learning about this part of history diligently.
Great, but very sad video. Ty for sharing
I cant even watch these things anymore. Once you learn... Every statistic, every fact Ive ever learned about WW2...
My two great German uncles got caught handing out anti-hitler pamphlets. They survived. I don't know which camp they were sent to.
He wrote a play about it that I now have.
