All the shiny copperwork in the "chandelier" is just stages of cooling, where the air carrying slightly warmed air is passed upward and cooler air is passed downward. Getting to near absolute zero is required for the functioning of the quantum computer at the bottom of the structure. DARPA is funding research into development of a fault tolerant photonic quantum computer - one of the issues is that photons don't feel heat.
