Had NO clue they had to remember all the streets and take tests. Huge respect to these people.

As sad as it is, there’s literally no longer any reason for a taxi driver to have this knowledge. It came about in the first place through necessity and that necessity just isn’t there anymore.

always remember being alone stuck at Euston last train cancelled. black cab driver said he was going home that way, gave me a lift, going several miles out of his way, and refused payment. can't see a robot ever doing that.

They're putting themselves through way too much stress just to be a cab driver. That test is insane.

The enthusiasm of the clerk ringing the bell to celebrate Anshu Moorjani's passing of The Knowledge really touched my heart. Hats off to these gents for striving for excellence!

this is sad. maybe there’s room for these guys as some sort of luxury option in the future, but at least in SF everyone I know prefers waymo to ubers/lyfts.

When I was a tourist in London, I took black cabs several times. I felt absolutely safe with the drivers (the first one was a woman). And one time I got lost and saw a cab just sitting there so I asked the driver for directions. He couldn't have been more helpful.
