1. make it known to upper mgmt that you want promotion 2. make an argument for more scope 3. don't wait for your turn you're welcome.
let your manager know you want promotion - communication know more than senior level stuff - skill be active about it - leadership you said it's not these three but then it's these three
8:22 willingness to have uncomfortable conversations is critical to economic and personal success. Great advice.
Love this advice not even just for promotion. All the points were clearly explained and its true that waiting around never got anyone promoted. You have to speak up and make it happen or job hop to another team for the promo
I actually asked nicely but firmly for a promotion last year and got one this year! Regret not doing it earlier.
Ima l4 systems engineer at Amazon I wish you were here. I need a mentor like you
This advice is so well laid out! I love the personal stories you add to your points.
actually insane that this video has only 16k views because it's probably one of the most important videos Steve has ever made. nobody is gonna live your life for you!!! you have to advocate for yourself. it applies to everything in this world and promotions are definitely one of them. thank you for the reminder Tasty Steve
They should get rid of hierarchy and titles. There should only be roles and increase or decrease in compensation every year, which should be based on team performance, individual performance, and company performance.
Iβve always been told by mentors in banking tech that if the tech skills are not noticeably high, there isnβt even a conversation about promotion. As in itβs a prerequisite.
