Forcing someone to act against their beliefs is the most anti-American thing I've heard yet. The individual should be able to choose what services they provide and to whom. Bake your own cake, sir, or shop at another store. How did this become a legal issue?

You hit the nail on the head, Ben. I’ve been saying the same thing for literally decades. I am a staunch Constitutionalist. In, for example, the 80’s and 90’s detractors would call me ‘racist,’ or ‘bigot,’ or ‘misogynist,’ but in truth I was none of these. My contention was always that, like it or not, the Bill of Rights protects the individual—whether or not the individual has any redeeming ethical or moral value. I can remember the ACLU protecting Nazis. The “Blues Brothers” movie spoofed that. However, I was also aware that redefining governmental boundaries could, over time, be eroded into something—if not at the time, absurd, then wholly tyrannical. The barometer I used then (which appears more relevant now) was the comparison of a free country like the United States versus a system of government such as the one in place then in the Soviet Union. As a teenager (early 80’s), I praised the Peace Movement, and the Civil Rights Movements of the 60’s… until I realized how much their leadership gravitated towards Communism (Marxism, or Socialism, because no good Communist will ever openly identify as a “Communist”). The very people who praised the virtues of peace and love had at their core a desire to take away individual rights, in favor of a centralized authoritarian government. The true Litmus Test would be how leftists perceive a group like Old Order Amish. In those days, most would agree they were a peaceful people—more in tuned, I might add to the communes, etc. praised by the left in the 60’s and 70’s. Most thought of them as a harmless counterculture that eschewed the evils of modern society, yet were [rightly] protected in their freedom to practice their religion. How do you suppose the left views these people now? Further, what will they do in the future to groups such as these, people whose religious tenets forbid them from, as you’ve pointed out, “celebrating” certain behaviors they consider sinful? The answer, unfortunately, is apparent with the left’s deafening silence on the Chinese Communist Party’s repression of the Uhygurs. I haven’t heard any Democrats speaking out against the CCP for suppressing protestors over there. Could it be that the Democrats don’t want to anger their financial supporters?

What will happen if a Christian goes to a gay bakery and demands that they bake a cake that says "Gays are going to hell"? The idea that you are forced to do whatever a customer requests is absurd.

There is a big difference between hatred and tolerance, and there is a big difference between love and tolerance. There is a big difference between tolerance and celebration.

Also: The Colorado cake shop didn't refuse to sell them a cake, they refused to decorate the cake for a gay wedding... they offered to sell a cake the couple could decorate themselves. Big difference...
