Watching big business fail because people refuse to work for them is gong to be awesome.
If my boss wanted to charge me $425 just to park at work, I am not showing up. That's insane.
Teamster here, I passed the striking workers yesterday honked and waved at them, then refused to drop off any freight at the resort
Ski patrol is not an entry level job. They save lives. They bring you down the mountain when you get hurt. They are an important part of the resort. Vail has ruined Park City.
I've grown up in Colorado and have seen Vail Resorts destroy the industry over the last two decades. Prices have increased exponentially while the product has drastically decreased in quality. And yes it was much cheaper to ski back then(and it's much cheaper to go all the way to Europe to ski now because of price hikes). All this and they can't be bothered to pay the most important employees on the mountain a 10% increase. Ridiculous.
Worked in park city for a while, it's unlivable for workers. All of us had to drive from Salt lake in the snowy winter up a dangerous mountain an hour to work. Many of them bring in foreigners, house them and pay them crap. I stand with the workers on this one!
I’m glad the working class is finally waking up to realize that, in the game of cut throat greed, we do not have a seat at the same dinner table as the rich. We’re on the menu. Strike on
"Chaos at _______________ After Workers Denied Raises" should be every news story this year.
I busted my knee skiing about eight years ago. One of the ski patrollers was a woman who weighed maybe 40 pounds less than me. She hauled me down a 25-degree slope in a sled for what seemed like a mile (there was another person behind with a rope). They deserve everything they want and more (they should ask for $35 an hour). It takes years to learn to ski; it’s an expensive hobby.
Fellow Utahn here, so happy to see this story spread and reach out to my go to channel for news. Thanks BP.
