Democratic Division: Newsom's Calibration vs. Schumer's Shutdown Fallout

Discover why Gavin Newsom's balancing act between donors and the progressive base may fail, and see how Senator Schumer's shutdown deal fuels a potent anti-establishment mood in upcoming Democratic primaries.

Short Summary

  • Newsom proves unsustainable trying to appeal to both the donor class and populist elements of the Democratic base.
  • The government shutdown cave created an immediate political litmus test: opposing the deal is not enough; candidates must now call for Chuck Schumer's resignation.
  • Outsider candidates gain massive advantage by rejecting institutional figures like Schumer, exposing Newsom's calculated risks.

This discussion analyzes the pressure cooker within the Democratic Party post-shutdown. We examine Newsom's tightrope walk and how institutional failures by leaders like Schumer create clear political pathways for progressive insurgents aiming for a complete system overhaul.

He is still a corporate guy, and no matter how big “his” tent is…..that is where his loyalty is.

Gavin is closer politically to Mitt Romney than he is to Bernie, I think.

As a Californian, anytime Newsom speaks to media, I want to hear him questioned on AIPAC. As in "Do you disavow AIPAC?" Give no quarter.

A vote for Newsom is a vote to get backstabbed at the critical moment.

Jean Shaheen is why I am against having a big tent, the big tent is what allowed us to have decades of analysis of paralysis. Decades of ineptitude in governance as they chose corruption over action. Its time to jettison the big tent, put a torch to it and finally embrace a core set of principles. I won't vote for a corpricrat ever again. I hope I am not the only one.

I don't want a big tent if the big tent means the corporate shills have space to speak into
