THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS CHANNEL. I haven't loved some of the on the fly coverage I have seen lately but you guys consistently cover the sorts of things that we NEED to be talking about
I had 4 concussions between high school and college basketball. It's a real problem and I feel the effects of those even to this day. Migraines, memory issues, etc. And that's with being out for two weeks or more after each one. Prayers going out for Tua that he is able to recover and not suffer any long-term issues from this.
Brain injuries are no joke. Football growing up I definitely had at minimum small concussions and a loss of consciousness in high school. Then in the army being around explosions, rocket launchers, and a vehicle accident. They should have brain scans standard before and after both nfl careers and military service
I'm glad they put these protocols in place, but they need to follow their own guidance. All players want to play, but you have to be pulled aside for your own health occasionally. After years of playing football at an elite level I still have occasional headaches from damage taken. Years ago when I was active we would get hit see stars, get nauseous, dizzy etc but still get back in the game and its not worth it, not then and definitely not now. Doctors need to follow their oath of doing no harm.
The larger issue is the need to do away with Thursday night NFL football all together … it’s not enough recovery time from Sunday
I remember when the penguins kept crosby off the ice for way longer than everyone thought he should have been. Totally makes sense why they did now.
I like how Krystal researches this. This is how reporters are supposed to work. Sadly a rare attribute in mainstream journalism now.
I was reading an article about the drought in Kansas destroying the wheat crop. One farming couple brought the reporter around, showing dried out fields that would not yield anything this year. One of those fields was named after their son, who died after getting a traumatic brain injury playing high school football.
I saw those fencing incidents a couple times among high level riders back when I rode BMX. The ones I saw all recovered, but with lasting, seemingly permanent effects to speech and motor function. Scary shit for sure.
The last concussion I got playing university hockey ended my career at 22. Suffered near daily migraines for over 7 years following that. Still have some memory issues now at 34 years.
