My home was purchased because of its locality to 24 hr grocery shopping. There were two full sized grocery stores 5 min from my house. One a Kroger the other a Seessel's. Both 24 hrs. Then Seessel's was bought by Schnuck's. Schnuck's was bought by Kroger a few years down the line and they promptly closed the store. Now I had just one store. No big deal right Kroger maintained 24 hr service. Fast forward 10 years. Now Kroger reduced all their hours post covid and increased their prices and there is no direct competition that can even decide you know what we are gonna maintain 24 hr service and keep our prices low and take their market share. I'm screwed because I only work 2nd and 3rd shift and I can't get anything I need anymore I have to go to Walgreens to guy staples of life. I'm paying through the teeth at Kroger. Now they want to buy Albertson's? Well let me tell you if you have an Albertson's owned and a Kroger owned in your town they will close all Albertson's owned brands. Reduce hours and increase prices.

I remember when Monopolies weren't allowed in America, but now that billionaires own our elected officials, they are able to purchase our country.

“I saw a little boy, perhaps 10 years old, driving a huge cart-horse along a narrow path, whipping it whenever it tried to turn. It struck me that if only such animals became aware of their strength we should have no power over them, and that man exploit animals in much the same way as the rich exploit the proletariat. ” George Orwell

Canadian cities under 100,000 have seen their small retailers decimated by Walmart. But not just due to Walmart itself. In my small city, the CITY begged Walmart to open on a marvellous wetland full of birds by giving them a tax break to build!
