Warner Bros. Bidding War: Netflix vs. Paramount Amid Political Intrigue

Discover how Jared Kushner's involvement and Trump-era political tactics are deeply complicating the massive Warner Bros. sale, potentially overriding standard business incentives.

Short Summary

  • The $22/$25 per share offers for Warner Brothers Discovery involve Netflix and Paramount Sky Dance (PSD).
  • Netflix’s apparent win is challenged by a hostile bid from PSD, which leverages deep connections to Donald Trump and Jared Kushner.
  • Political influence poses an ironic hurdle: If regulators challenge the merger on antitrust grounds, Trump’s stated intervention could be used by the merging entity to defend itself.
  • The outcome significantly threatens the already fragile theatrical movie ecosystem through consolidation or a dilution of prestige content quality.

This discussion unpacks the financial bids, the specific political actors backing Paramount, and the likely negative impacts on Hollywood structure and film quality, regardless of the final winner.

I am not at all surprised that Trump desperately wants to control all information available to the American people. The only reason he is president is because of lies and false propaganda. If he can deny Americans access to any factual journalism, he believes he can enslave us forever.

When Trump took the oath of office on inauguration day, he was already the most corrupt president in US history.

I don’t think Congress knows what monopolies are anymore. Or they just like the money part I guess.

Meddling in culture is a very Stalinist thing for the president to do. Makes sense as he's an aspiring autocrat.
