Description

Sam Stein and Sarah Longwell break down the shocking Virginia Supreme Court decision overturning the state’s new redistricting maps and what it means for the battle for control of the House in 2026. Democrats believed Virginia was their biggest answer to Republican-led mid-cycle gerrymandering in states like Texas, Florida, and Tennessee. Sam and Sarah explain why the decision is such a major setback for Democrats, how Republicans are redrawing districts across the South, and whether Democrats can still overcome a growing GOP structural advantage. I’m not deflated, I’m fucking furious. It’s like they want a French Revolution, they’re practically begging for it.

Meanwhile Louisiana is canceling elections mid vote to redraw the map and it’s somehow okay.

Didn’t they redraw the maps in TN after voting had already started there? Not playing by the same rules here. VA should ignore the ruling and proceed with the new maps.

Ignore the ruling. Dems can’t play by the rules if the Republicans won’t. One party believes in democracy and the other doesn’t. It’s as simple as that. Dems can’t be held to a double standard. It’s total BS. If you have to break the rules in service of the broader goal of saving democracy, then do it! And no, we can not “eek out a majority” because the Republicans will challenge the results if they lose and it will go to the corrupt Supreme Court and they will overturn it. It has to be big to avoid that. They’ve got to delay. Not an option. They don’t and the base will revolt.

Can't run the table if the other side flips the table over when they don't win

Very easy solution. MAGA states already ignore their court rulings so just follow their lead. You play by the rules the other side uses.
