We were going to funerals several times a week. I will never get over that. We even helped friends to die. A dark and evil time that marked many of us forever, certainly to this day.
The only part of Contagion that they didn't anticipate was the resistance to the vaccine in the real-world.
The AIDS quilt that traveled the country was incredibly moving to see a tangible object that symbolized the lives of so many people and how expansive it was.
We now have the beginnings of a TB tuberculosis outbreak in South Dakota and the panhandle of Nebraska. No one is reporting or even talking about it. By the time it does, it will be truly tragic. Please protect yourself.
Listening to you, made me do a rapid reflection on my 25 years as a critical care nurse. Every virus, hiv, covid, west Nile, shingles I saw. The most deaths were from covid, which many didn't need to occur.
The most important thing is that the people who had the disease were pushed out of society and the Movie “ Philadelphia “was the first film that made the audience realize how important this was.
HIV+ funerals most every week and the silence was deafening 😢

The blowing on the dice scene, picking up someone elses virus infected cellphone, touching the elevator button, the hand rungs on buses, infected kids going to school (super spreader events), touching your face "100xs an hour" -- great golden nuggets that stayed long after the film ended
