Description

John Avlon welcomes his wife Margaret Hoover—host of Firing Line and great-granddaughter of President Herbert Hoover—to discuss what Paxton’s annihilation of Cornyn reveals about today’s GOP, Trump’s Iran gamble, the case for ranked-choice voting, and what this political era has done to two journalists who started on opposite sides of the aisle. I am a Democrat in my 60’ and I miss just being disappointed when Republicans won elections rather than terrified!

John is right, the GOP really doesn't care about balanced budgets. Ronald Reagan exploded the budget deficit because his Supply Side Economics and Laffer Curve theory was incorrect. Nevertheless, having large deficits is something that the wealthy love. They pay a lower tax rate than most other people, and then earn income by holding the rights to the government debt. (Clinton balanced the budget in spite of Gingrich and the GOP who wanted more tax cuts)

We have not “lost” all of our allies — we pushed them away and got rid of them.

No, the reason we’re here is due to Reagan, Gingrich and Kentucky. And politicians from local to national placating boomers and not building surplus housing to keep rents and costs down. Making young men miserable and primed for fascism while monopolies got their bellies rubbed.

The GOP has been entirely corrupt since the Nixon years, that's why Trump joined the party. They will continue to be corrupt after he's gone, with different excuses. This damage control is honestly pathetic
