I can tell you from personal experience he is 100% correct. If you have low self-esteem everything is difficult, including making choices that grow your self-esteem. It’s vicious.

Not recommending it, but I had low self esteem for a long time. Always felt shy, weak, and anxious. Then in my mid 20s I was forced into a street fight and to defend myself against a dude 50lb bigger than me. I won the fight and felt “high” for a whole week. But more than that it permanently boosted my confidence and self esteem. I finally felt like I wasn’t weak. A lot of times we are a lot stronger/competent than we believe but we never tested ourselves. So we live with the anxiety/uncertainty that we aren’t good enough.

“Self-esteem is the reputation you have with yourself.” Hit me hard where it needed to. Thank you so much for that. Also the concept of “love yourself the way others should have loved you.” I think the latter is harder to do when you didn’t have it, but is also good to keep in mind.

A life without self-worth is a life forever balancing on the edge of despair. Low self esteem shrinks your world.

The secret to authentic self-esteem is accepting yourself completely and you will know when you are there when you stop the big 3: trying to be liked, seeking validation, and caring what others think of you. A person who truly has great self-esteem NEVER tries to be liked, seeks validation, or worries what someone thinks of them.

Self-esteem isn’t self-help fluff — it’s the currency you trade with reality. You get what you think you deserve.
