Ilya recognizes Miles from paparazzi photos of Shane and Rose- when he sees Miles , he knows Rose is there so he naturally looks for Shane

It's been 5 years and Ilya is asking Shane to his house for the first time, asking him to stay over, cooking him a meal, has cold ginger ale ready, when Ilya himself doesn't drink ginger ale, being open with him about his relationship past, and then for the first time uses his first name during sex. This is Ilya telling Shane how much he cares about him. That he's feeling more than casual. And it freaks Shane the frack out... which makes Ilya throw his walls back up again.

In the book it talks about Scott entering the smoothie shop so sweaty, his extremely tight underarmour shirt clinging to every curve of his muscles as if he had no shirt at all. And somehow, miracle of all miracles, they captured that exactly in the first scene. 🤩

Remember that Scott and Kip are like a rom-com- they have the meet cute, they are flirty and they communicate a lot better- because they are older and also Kip is already out. The only thing holding them back as a couple is Scott not being ready to come out publicly but he is at least out to himself and knows he is gay. Ilya and Shane are almost a decade younger, Shane still hasn't figured out his sexuality yet, and Ilya is from a country where he CAN'T come out. They have very different dynamics but Ilya and Shane still have the feelings, even if they haven't admitted it to themselves yet.

As a Gay guy, I really appreciate seeing you take the show seriously- and not write it off as a joke. Thank you for that!

I love that Miles may not have known who Ilya was, but Ilya knows enough about what Shane is doing. So, as soon as he sees Miles, he knows that Rose is there, which means that Shane is there. He freezes and turns, looking for Shane. Great moment.
