Description

Michael, Alli, and Vivian continue their Superman journey with Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006), the alternate version of the classic sequel that restores much of director Richard Donner’s original vision for Superman’s battle against General Zod, Ursa, and Non after the three Kryptonian villains escape the Phantom Zone and arrive on Earth. Expanding on the emotional conflict between Clark Kent’s desire for a normal life with Lois Lane and his responsibility as Superman, the film offers a different take on one of the most iconic stories in superhero cinema. This continued reaction stands out for its fascinating behind-the-scenes history, alternate scenes, and classic comic-book storytelling, as Michael, Alli, and Vivian react to the restored vision, major differences, and legendary Superman moments in real time. Directed by Richard Donner (Superman: The Movie, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon, Scrooged, The Omen), the film stars Christopher Reeve (Somewhere in Time, Superman: The Movie, Rear Window, The Remains of the Day, Village of the Damned), Margot Kidder (Black Christmas, Superman: The Movie, Amityville 3-D, Sisters, Maverick), Gene Hackman (The French Connection, Unforgiven, Enemy of the State, Hoosiers, The Royal Tenenbaums), Terence Stamp (Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Smallville, Valkyrie, Wanted, Last Night in Soho), and Sarah Douglas (Conan the Destroyer, V: The Final Battle, Falcon Crest, Beastmaster 2, Return of the Living Dead III), bringing together a cast tied to classic superhero films, science-fiction favorites, and iconic Hollywood performances that continue to drive strong reaction and crossover audience appeal. ___________________________________________________ We've got merch! To me, the Donner cut is incomplete and unfinished. It did use some of Lester’s scenes as a result. It had some redeeming qualities about the theatrical cut and explained some of those plotholes, yet the beginning and ending were pretty bad. I wonder how it would have been had Donner not been fired by the Salkind producers. The climax ruined the whole movie. Reversing the world backwards to the beginning of the movie, meaning none of the events happened and didn’t matter whatsoever. This is why I ultimately prefer the theatrical cut. We know when they shot Superman I and II simultaneously, that the reversing Earth backwards in time was supposed to be Superman II’s ending which they later added to Superman I.

The Richard Donner Cut from Superman 2 is awful, for many reasons. There are videos explaining that. Big mistake watching it for the first time, should have chosen theatrical (which has its own problems, but it's funny to admit it's a better film).
