The Estabrook's are from Syracuse, NY - where I'm from. I actually googled the two of them yesterday and found Mrs. Estabrook is no longer "Mrs. Estabrook", she's single at age 86. Mr. Estabrook is married (a second time) and is 89 years old. I found it fascinating that his first priority was the office and not his family. Can't blame her for not wanting to be married to him any longer. Wonder if he actually was at "community meetings"??!!
0:49 Mothers worried about their children using pacifiers and/or thumb sucking meanwhile adult cigarette smoking was ubiquitous
my favourite part about this is listening to how people talked in olden times.
Situations like this are ripe for affairs. The husband works long hours and goes on business trips. The wife is frustrated because she’s cooking, cleaning, and watching the kids 24 seven, and there’s no relief in sight and when the husband does come home, he just wants to relax. Two pressure cookers on, but no steam escaping,….
I'm 68 and this is my mother's generation. My mum threw out Dr. Spock's book because she didn't like how my sister was turning out.
12:43 when was her time off to play basketball or breathe a little? Only he deserves to relax?
29:54 That poor boy; my heart breaks for him. The dad comes across as a ‘human doing’, and not a ‘human being’. This was the Jones Generation, just keeping up with the Joneses. All work and no play, affection or real connection can drive most people to seek it elsewhere. They called it rebellion at the time.
I see that in schools now. Parents abdicating their responsibilities to the schools. When I see issues with kids discussed online, people are quick to say, "Maybe teachers should be...", as compared to, "Maybe the parents should..." That was not me in raising my child. I wanted the schools to have the LEAST influence on my child. I wanted to be his biggest influence. But there are so many parents to want to blame the schools for their child's behaviors, when THEY are the ones who should be pointing the fingers at themselves.
This is incredible! And David, the filming of this was absolutely amazing and ahead of its time.just the little league footage alone was phenomenal. I’d love to see documentaries like this throughout the years/decades.Did films like this exist in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s? Be so interesting to see..
It just amazes me how these parents treat their kids up to 17 years old like their children but then all of a sudden when they turn 18, they’re just supposed to know everything about being an adult.
